What Kind Of Session Should I Go For?

July 06, 20269 min read

I thought it would be a great time to explain in a bit more depth the different kind of sessions you can book with an astrologer. Most people go for a foundational natal chart reading (and this is where I recommend anyone to start) and then I think many people think that's it. Well, that's like going to a psychologist and thinking one session will cover everything you are going to see them for. True astrology work unfolds in layers and the first foundational reading won't even cover your whole chart - just having a conversation around someone's Sun, Moon & Rising signs & placements alone (the Big Three) can take the whole 60 minute session. It's that deep and multilayered. So let's dive in!

Natal Chart Reading
The foundation that everything else rests upon. Any other reading will always be referred back to the natal chart which is why I always recommend going with a natal chart reading first. This is where we talk about your Sun, Moon and Rising placements. It's usually where I start a reading but there have been several occasions when the chart is shouting so loudly at me to start with something else that I listen to the not-so-quiet voice! I also make sure to cover as much of the information in the intake form that is filled out upon booking and this also steers the conversation where the focus may be less on Sun, Moon & Rising and more on something that stands out related to the chart and the information shared.
There are a couple of things that I absolutely endeavour to weave in during a natal chart reading and that is looking at the progressed chart, which is the psychological unfolding of our lives and can very accurately describe inner urges and changes that take place over a longer period of time. It's great for looking at timing of what is currently in focus for you - with the progressed Sun it spans themes over a 30 year period and for the progressed Moon it spans roughly 2 years. I check to see where you are at in your progressed lunar cycle (one cycle is 29 years) - seeing when you are approaching your progressed New, Full or Balsamic Moon tells me a lot about what kind of energy is pooling for you and the best way to work with it. Is it a time for new seeds to be planted? A time when lots of new ideas are bursting forth to be seen and shared? A peak time for the fruits of your labour to be harvested? Or a time of review and refining old skills? Or a quieter time of letting go and releasing what no longer holds value for you, to clear ground for the new that will be coming in? To create space for that, we also need to let go and that's not something most of us are terribly good at. Knowing where you are in your own personal lunar cycle can be helpful so you can focus your energies where they will best serve you.
If time allows, I also check which houses transiting Saturn (lessons and delays but where great rewards await) and Jupiter (expansion, growth and opportunities) are visiting with potentially one more important transit that stands out. This is A LOT in one hour! So with me, a foundational natal chart reading is addressing themes mentioned in your intake form along with looking at both longer-term and shorter-term transits for timing.

Solar Return Reading
This is a reading that I recommend you do once a year at your Solar Return which is when the transiting Sun returns to the same sign and degree it was when you were born - in other words, your birthday! This is a completely separate chart that we look at and it tells me what the focus for the year is, the areas of life you will be most sensitive about and may experience most fluctuations, what energy is most supportive for magnetizing opportunities into your life and what the lessons and challenges may be. Most of my clients have moved away from their birth place so I usually look at two charts for this reading - one for where you were born and one for where you are now. Both tell a story and both are worth paying attention to. Your Solar Return chart will look different for each year hence my recommendation to make this an annual gift to yourself around your birthday 😉

Lunar Return Reading
A monthly reading based on your natal Moon sign and degree - like the Solar Return, the lunar one is when the transiting Moon returns to the same sign and degree as your natal Moon and this happens on a monthly basis. The chart shows what and where the felt tone of the month will be and what/how to focus on to navigate it with deeper trust, less overwhelm and more clarity.
My recommendation would be to sign up forLa Luna Reset Method with Support (55 USD/month or 555 USD/year) as it includes a monthly 30 minute support call where we walk through your month together.

Relocation Chart Reading
Perfect for when you are considering/planning on moving to another country and/or going on holiday somewhere and want to know what the energies there reveal and what you may expect. This is again a very different chart to the natal chart as I need to cast it for the location you are considering visiting/moving to. Living on our power lines can really impact our experience of a place and activate certain energies. As an example, I am currently living on my Neptune Descendant line while having a transiting Neptune square natal Neptune transit! To say that it has tested my marriage is an understatement 😅 That may be a story for another day but I will say two fascinating things about living on this line - through relational experiences( Neptune on the Descendant/7th house theme of 'others') two quite Neptunian professions have been activated at separate times. The first is photography back in 2019 and the second more recent one is astrology. How? Because Neptune is conjunct my Midheaven (that which points to your deeper calling/vocation and both certainly feel that way) in the 10th house of career and visibility. So I am deeply grateful for those activations to my natal chart by living on one of my power lines!

Financial Astrology Reading
We look at your money houses which can reveal the supportive energies around how you make money, the kind of work that you do, shared finances, what your deeper calling may be, what you are here to be an authority on, what specific planets IN the money houses mean for your wealth and what it means when your money houses are empty, amongst other things. Again, the conversation between us is just as important as what the chart shows because I don't really tell you anything that you don't already deep down know. You might get the wake up call that you have been following society's script of what success and happiness look like while knowing in your core that you are meant to be doing something else. And through conversation, this oftentimes surfaces because you gave yourself the space to remember while seeing the confirmation stare you straight in the face through your chart 😉

Synastry/Composite Chart Reading
This is where we look at your chart against someone else's like your partner, your child, your sibling, your mother etc. The synastry chart looks at the two charts and how they interact with one another while the composite chart is a completely separate chart for the relationship itself. This can reveal what you and your partner are here to express in a way that can't be seen quite as easily in synastry. Both do not always tell the same story, as in the composite chart might show more challenges but in synastry there could be strong compatibility, and vice versa. This does not mean there is anything wrong - it shows the multidimensionality of each soul and what happens when we get together. Life is never black and white and neither are our relationships.

Children's Chart Reading
As the name indicates, a reading of your child/ren's chart(s) to confirm what you as their primary caregiver already know quite a lot about; their needs. A mother's intuition cannot be questioned but as a mother myself I can find moments of doubt and uncertainty at times about what my children truly need from me, what their core essence needs - not what my own conditioning thinks they need. Through looking at my own children's charts I have become much more aware of what my oldest child's emotional needs are compared to my youngest (and how what they need from me is not necessarily something I have always instinctively given because of my own chart energies being so different), how differently they learn and absorb stimuli, how they assert themselves and around what themes they might face their challenges and more. It has helped guide and inform my own parenting journey and the biggest gift is reminding myself daily of how to meet their unique needs in the unique way that they need to be met. Unmet needs during our childhood is what often gives rise to difficult projections as adults in all our relationships. And whatever we didn't get as children, we then seek in others as adults…and the sobering reality is that we are the only ones who can meet that unmet need in adulthood unless that need was met in childhood. Will we be able to meet them all for our children? Unlikely, but astrology gives us a great starting point.

Transit Reading
Here we would look at some specific transits that show up as significant markers for some period of time in the future. This is for areas of life that you want a deeper look into how they are unfolding and what potentials there might be. To clarify, it's not a Yes/No session where I can answer you very specifically (that belongs to the realm of horary astrology which I don't have experience in. Maybe one day!) rather it's an open-ended conversation on the potentialities of the life areas you are most keen to look at and what kind of energies are going to be supportive.

That was probably more than you expected to read but it also points to how deep the work can go. Did any of those readings speak to you? If YES I warmly invite you to book with me through my website.

Already know you want more than one reading? Then I recommend The Quarterly Compass which is available exclusively to returning clients (you need to have had at least one session with me to book this option) and more information on it can be found here.
